Group counseling and activities provide students an opportunity to define interactive styles, strengths and needs, and a “social laboratory” for practicing new ways of interacting with others. Group counseling promotes this process through the fostering of a safe and supportive environment where students are encouraged to express thoughts and feelings as they occur. Groups addressing issues common to many students are offered routinely. Groups with less common themes are offered periodically, based on an assessment of the current therapeutic needs within the student community. As learning opportunities present, groups may be called to address significant needs, issues, or events.
